Go Emma Go!
SUPER EMMA!!!
Gatsby’s Mom made a post yesterday about having trouble with Gatsby in Obedience class and being reluctant to want to try the ESBC challenge.
If you’ve followed this blog or know me, I’ve done my fair share of crying/whining/calls for help…
It’s difficult, because at our training center (What A Great Dog!), everyone is fabulous. Seriously. Everyone listens, does amazing tricks, has perfect heels, and then there is Emma and I. I really do get down on us/me sometimes because I probably don’t enforce the “rules” or wonder why Emma is unpredictable/stubborn/generally quirky…
Then, I see videos like this (Thanks to Hendrix’s Mom!) and I remember - oh, right I’ve got a Corgi. This is what I signed up for. Never end battles of Wits and Competitions to see who can out Stubborn the other! She’ll never be a Golden Retriever, Aussie or Border Collie but god dammit, we are fun!
And way cuter.. (science and buzzfeed agree.)
I love his/her little hophop!
Corgis… GONNA CORG. Excellent example!
Pudge was a stubborn shit when we did our class. It was SO embarrassing. He would bark the entire class, antagonize the other dogs and create the biggest drool piles. We were super frustrated too. But he still learned everything! Even while barking!
The Flying Corgi
Subtle agility training. ;) He likes to pay homage to the Corgi Homeworld by running up and down this hall like a chicken with its head cut off, so I put an obstacle in his way. Easy peasy!
So what is it I DO on Thursday nights? This is dog agility class. And this is me with my youngest prodigy, Divot, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
Divot was bred to run agility by Beth Magnus. Beth passed away in May from ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed not long after she had chosen Divot for me from a gifted litter of 10. He was the one who would take me far in the sport. He was the one she hand picked for me. No one else. I owe it to her to finish his AKC agility championship, known as a MACH.
So welcome to the sport of dog agility.
Corgi prefers to use live stunt dogs in place of hurdles. It makes the whole thing more … dangerous.
